That's the funniest scare tactic I've ever seen.

Truly, Jack Chick is a master at the art of characterization.
Also, I love the not-so-subtle change in her features after she becomes "Born Again."

Yeah, claiming that "real Christians(TM)" aren't religious seems more and more popular among fundies. I remember quite a few quotes from fstdt where people say that Christianity isn't a religion.
But damn, these Chick tracts haven't been getting better and better over the years, have they? I can't believe that anyone who isn't already a brainwashed fundie would see any value (except for unintentional entertainment, of course) in them. All the characters in them are so devoid of any kind of normal human reaction to things. They don't even seem like any kind of useful stereotypes or caricatures, they are just the very simplest of mouthpieces for his views and beliefs. I think that a truly warped mind is needed to appreciate Chick tracts as anything other than something to laugh at.

I think that a truly warped mind is needed to appreciate Chick tracts as anything other than something to laugh at. Supposedly, Chick had a stroke or something similar about 10 years ago. The present hypothesis is that Chick's deteriorating writing and drawing skills are a result of his own mental condition deteriorating as a result of what happened to him; if true, then Chick might not be much longer for this world. I'll have to go back and find it, but over on the TV Tropes wiki I once saw someone respond to that news by saying that, as a medical professional, it was the first time in his entire adult life that he was ever grateful to hear about someone undergoing what happened to Chick.

That was my understanding as well. Of course its possible that his crazy could be unrelated to the stroke, but we win either way.

My mom trained herself to speak properly again and to be ambidextrous after her stroke . . . and she's a professional oil painter . . . sorry to burst your bubble. also, lolling here at chick's (or his associate's) attempt to draw an emo college girl.

When my granmother stroked out, her attitude didn't change, just the use of one side of her body, she was still all there mentally until her later years when she wanted to die

I like how in these tracts, no one ever seems to have heard of Jesus before. And then they're all "Duh...Jesus, you say? Well, gosh! I guess I's been doin' it all wrong! Better repent..."
Also, what's up with this on the second page:
"What's your number?" "How dare she cheat on me!"
Are those both girls talking? First off, that had nothing to do with anything, and second, who cheats on someone right in front of them?

That's because Christianity isn't a religion!

Yes, exactly. But what really boggles the mind is that it is far from just Jack Chick who thinks that there are adult people who haven't heard of Jesus, and that they'd react like that. I've seen a large number of fundies who revel in every opportunity to "witness" to people who "haven't heard the Good News". And they've explained to me how wonderful it is to teach someone about Jesus so that their soul will be saved. Just as if these people hadn't heard about Jesus and already rejected the idea. They seem to very honestly believe that the only possible reason not to be Christian is to be unaware of the Christian teachings...

First time someone goes to me "have you heard of someone called Jesus Christ" I just stared at her as if she'd gone round the twist. I was literally lost for words, and that doesn't happen often. She probably thought I'd been filled with the spirit or something. Best of all, this happened when I was an undergraduate. Apparently it's possible for someone with the level of education needed to get into a top 10 university not to have heard of Jesus. Yeah.

It probably helps that they tend to just leave the tracts lying around for someone to find them and never have to go face-to-face with someone else. Then I guess they can just tell themselves someone found the tract and was instantly converted, and feel good about themselves.

I literally laughed out loud when I saw the panel of Adam with the "SIN" cloud over him and him saying "What's this?"
Unwittingly, Chick has shown a flaw in the Garden of Eden story that most Christians want to deny. Since Adam had no frame of reference, how could he know what sin was? And if he didn't know what sin was, why would God punish him and all of humanity from then on (except for those that only believe Jesus was the Savior) for it?
And yeah, Pyena, I was thinking the same thing about nobody in a Chick tract ever having heard of Jesus before while I read that tract. If her grandpa was that "Christian", why had he not told Hannah the good news before she was old enough to go to college? Chick tracts, especially this one, are so full of holes you could fly a 747 through them.
