These freaks are talking about how they have a right to bear arms. But if they keep this shit up it'll be removed because of THEM. As it should be. I feel the Founders made a big mistake including that particular right.

... Dad had to move to Colorado for work and because my brother wants to join law enforcement, they joined their local chapter of the NRA (dad jokes he's the only liberal in the org) and he's going to teach me how to shoot when I visit him. I figure it'll be fun but it doesn't change my views that gun control in this country needs to be tightened to keep quacks like this TCH freak from ever touching something more powerful than a slingshot. I agree 100%. As a gun nut myself, I agree. Gun control does need to be tightened up a bit here. They should go through a little better and reform the laws. It makes me a little sad every time I hear about some asshole like this or a shooting that makes the news or something. I have worked too damned hard to be a responsible, mature respectful owner of some very powerful, somewhat dangerous tools. And this idiot makes us all look bad. Itach, you'll have a lot of fun target shooting. And it'll be a pretty good bonding exercise with your dad.

I think what really separates people like us and people like the OP is the fact that we are in favor of tighter gun control and they are not then they whine when things like Tucson happens. Which reminds me... I should write some petitions and such about tighter gun control in my state. We have some of the loosest gun control laws in the entire US.

No, it wasn't a mistake. It was needed at the time. It also has a somewhat different context then it does now. Without a doubt. However, that doesn't change the fact that the amendment wasn't a mistake and was needed at the time.

I'm not sure it was needed. I'd buy that they felt it was needed, and that hasn't changed despite the considerably reduced significance of personal firearms in warfare. But I don't see where the guarantee of the right to bear arms actually had any measurable impact on how things played out here.

And that doesn't change the fact that it's archaic and obsolete. Not to mention the number of clearly bug-fuck CRAZY folks* who own guns... * Nobody on this forum, far as I can tell.

I think marriage is archaic and obsolete but you don't see me rallying to ban it.

I think marriage is archaic and obsolete but you don't see me rallying to ban it. Yes, but the odds of being shot by a gun are higher than the odds of being shot by a spouse. Marginally.

The point is, that the basis for banning (or even making legal) something thanks to opinion or anything of the sort is asinine. Just like people have the opinion that tv is bad for kids. That opinion has been around for years. Then there's the opinion that video games are bad. Or the opinion that Harry Potter leads kids to the devil. Everything has a light and a dark side to it. You can't simply ban something because you don't like it. That's being arbitrary. Nor can you ban something because of minority statistics.

I think Nash had something to say on a similar topic...something that went like "grow the fuck up and use your brains before you go trying to make your own goddamn energy drink!" The sentiment is still the same. Personal responsibility, folks. While guns certainly need more intensive regulation than caffeine (though now I'm tempted to poison someone with caffeine...ohhh Amaranth~), in the end, why not let people have them? Just because something's archaic it doesn't mean it needs to be phased out...I mean, sex is sooo yesterday.

I didn't log out of "Fundies Say the Darndest Things" and onto another site by accident, did I?
