And what exactly are we supposed to do about it? Call out racism when we see it? And what if it never happens in a place where I'm in a position to do something about it? If I see some people getting beaten up, I'd definitely call the police. If I hear someone use a racial slur, I'll say something. But that stuff doesn't happen in my community. Are you suggesting people move to more diverse communities just so they can stick up for minority groups?

Don't worry, dear friend. Don't trouble yourself with such negative rantings.
This argument was designed for that very purpose, and contributing merely makes it worse. There is no point to continuing the pointless GRRR-ness of it, so, therefore, wuvins.
*hugs everyone again*

Are you suggesting people move to more diverse communities just so they can stick up for minority groups? First of all, you seem awfully quick to claim it doesn't happen in your community. Are you sure? No, you don't have to move, but you can contribute time and/or money to citizen overwatch organisations that combat this sort of thing. ACLU, Prison Watch, OpenGovernment, the Innocence Project, and similar. Its the treatment these people recieved from the police that I really take issue with, btw.

Pretty sure, since I live in a almost-entirely white community. People may be racist around here, but there's no one to take it out on.
Also, I agree that what happened was just wrong. And I don't see what the fuss was about the title, or posting it on July 4. I don't much care for the holiday, and I don't much care for where I live.
I just don't understand what your point was. If it's just to make people think, well, I agree we need more of that. But I think most people on this board already are aware of the racism that goes on in America.

But even those of us who are aware of such things, can do to be reminded on occasion, lest we get blase. I know I need occasional reminders.

I read the article, and...
What does it have to do with the 4th of July?

I read the article, and... What does it have to do with the 4th of July? Absolutely... nothing. I guess it's LHM's way of calling us out on the racism in our country and making it seem like we condone it.

I read the article, and... What does it have to do with the 4th of July? My point, isthat amidst all the fireworks and "woo! we're number one!" that goes with your national day, it might be worth a little introspection and consideration of areas where things could improve.

Sorry it wasn't as nice as you'd like. *re-reads earlier post* No... nothing about racism there... and for the nth time, while the race motivated attack in this story is despicable, it is actually the police corruption that I find particularly noteworthy.

So, basically, it has nothing to do with the 4th of July and you're just being sanctimonious. If I wanted moral police, I'd visit a church.

Who's putting words in people's mouths now? My point, however, is that I don't need you reminding me of this. And neither does anyone else. That is not your place.

So... who's place would you suggest it was?
