What was hacking the phones of dead soldiers' families supposed to accomplish?

LHM: No doubt looking for any dirt they can get. Looks like in this round, journalistic integrity went out the window even by present-day (very low) standards.

News Corp. behaving unethically - I really wish this was a news.

Their behavior is sickening but their diving share price, looming legal battles and growing list of well-placed enemies gives me nothing but joy.
Murdoch was the worst export my country ever plopped out, sorry world!

Well, unless Murdoch was right there, deleting phone messages, he's not really doing anything wrong. As much as I hate myself for defending him, this isn't really his doing. He just owns the paper (As well as tons of other media) and probably had no idea this was going on.

ASDA, Sainsbury's and O2 have withdrawn advertising. And it looks like the tentacles of this stretch back to the Diana Inquest (I've heard speculation the Bulger trial might start getting a mention, but there's been nothing yet).

The Daily Express will love that. Another chance to put Diana on the front page with a tangible at best connection to anything that's actually happening.

The Daily Express needs an excuse to put Diana on the front page? It's their response to a slow news day.

And somehow Rebekah Brooks stays. Murdoch must have a lot of things riding on her if he's prepared to sacrifice an entire newspaper for her sake. Even if it's going to be folded into the Sun, they've still lost a fairly big brand.
What a cunt.

There must be a lot more dirt left if Murdoch's willing to go this far in a attempt to make the issue go away.
From Charlie Brooker's twitter: "Judging by the trajectory so far, today's the day we discover they hacked Anne Frank."

One does have to wonder what it is Brooks/Wade knows or has in her possession. There's limpets watching her saying "Shit. This bitch HARDCORE!"

Please. He'll slide through this smelling fresh as a daisy. Justice doesn't apply if you're rich! I doubt it. We're in to McCarthy Rules here- you may freely slander or intrude on any poor or powerless grop, but doing the same to the wealthy (in McCarthy's case the army, here the royal family and celebrities) and you'll be crushed. Both sides are wealthy, not just the defendent as normal. Money will be cancelled out by money and therefore the case will be decided on the merits.
