Well, unless Murdoch was right there, deleting phone messages, he's not really doing anything wrong.
Incorrect. If Murdock learned or reasonably syspected the systematic, deliberate, decades-long invasion of privacy by two of his highest-paying newspapers, newspapers he takes a vast personal interest in, and failed to take actions to stop that invasion, he is complicit under the Medina standard. He has 'command responsibility'. If he failed to fully comply with the investigation by hiding the involvement of members of his family, he is an accompalice after the fact.
It has become increasingly obvious that he has been involved in a coverup.
"Rupert’s son, James... approved the early settlements in the case—settlements so large they could only reasonably be hush-money payoffs."

Murdock also has another problem. "there is the hard-core, bedrock, long-oppressed, anti-Murdoch faction in the U.K., suddenly armed with a mighty weapon: a scandal, into its third year, that drips out week after week."
Murdock's empire is built on contempt for the beliefs and persons of the majority of humanity. Most humans are left of centre or at least not corporate far right, anti-tax zealots. Most humans are middle class, unionised, poor, unemployed, university students, vote for the left party or are homeless at some point in their lives. However, News Corp believes these groups are, and constantly portrays us as, evil, silly, illegitimate, unserious. Only bankers, big foreign miners, Tory politicians, police, dishonest pundits and high-ranking soldiers are intelligent, serious, good or serious. It creates this impression typically without evidence and without argument, largely using word-association games and logical fallacies. This is because their ideology cannot be defended rationally.
The organisation is systematically creating a false history, false truths that are not argued for but assumed. "We all know that Thatcher was the greatest PM ever", "we all know that scientists have lied, as shown in the email scandals", "we all know that unions are evil and selfish" ect, Even more annoyingly, this is treated as 'objective journalism'- accurate reporting of scandals and so on- not the propaganda campaign it is. This meanins that moderate responses are not given equal time. For this reason, the left in nearly all western societies are presently marginalised. This annoys the majority of humanity, who, though weak, have now been provided a powerful weapon. The relationship between Murdock propaganda and most humans has stopped being a beatdown and become a fight.
One of the most interesting responses has been from the objective media- groups like the Guardian- who give reasonable time to all views, do not make up lies and only condemn views or people on the basis of argument or evidence.
