(I won't be here for the next few days likely, but I just wanted to put down my thoughts because its giving that flutter of cynical joy to see a Murdoch outfit flounder) Guardian Liveblog: www.guardian.co.uk/politics/blog/2011/jul/06/news-of-the-world-phone-hacking-liveThe Guardian is the one that broke the story and they've been utterly jumping all over it, so any article is suffice. I can't and won't summarize the issue in a short time, if you're looking for an explanation, let someone else do it. All that matters for me is, this is a Murdoch paper. It is partially responsible for dragging the standard of UK newspapers into hack territory long before the idea of Fox News even came along. And while it should be of no surprise to anyone that Murdoch and News Corp have no ethics, its surprised the more jaded members of society that they've been able to get away with it for so long. Murdoch might escape scot-free, but I hope News Corp will not at least in the UK. There have already been calls to halt the BSkyB merger. And more important for me is to let everyone see their tactics out in the open, spelled out and over the line. Let this be the end of News Corp and all its filth.

With that it just seems to get worse and worse each day: The first piece, about how they hacked Milly Dowler's phone and were deleting the messages that they had read and thus giving her family false hope she was alive, was bad enough, but then came the bit that they'd hacked the phones of the parents of children murdered by Ian Huntly. But to do the same to do the people who died on 7/7 and their families shows just how low in the gutter Murdoch is.
What I'm starting wonder is if they've hacked the phones of any people accused of murder and where that would leave newscorp and the people convicted of murder.

Their shares have also been badly affected and it might be that, rather than any sense of decency, that might lead to Murdoch putting the boot into the NoW.

I can't see how they could look any worse now, save possibly hacking the Queen's phone.

I can't see how they could look any worse now, save possibly hacking the Queen's phone. I'm pretty sure that a few years ago they were caught hacking into the phones of some the royal family.

The people responsible for this need to be bitch-slapped. Hard.

I really hope the people responsible end up in jail for this.

I really hope the people responsible end up in jail for this. +1 to this, this is seriously fucked up, even for Murdoch.

Harry and William have been identified. As well as police commissioners, MPs, and rival newspapers. Shit, they even bugged themselves. Current List of Known Hacking Victims

I really hope the people responsible end up in jail for this. I hope so too, but I doubt it.

I have been watching updates on this over on Bloomberg. According to them, Murdoch has been cooperating with the cops, but I get the feeling he has dug himself a hole so deep, he will need a backhoe to get himself out.

Please. He'll slide through this smelling fresh as a daisy. Justice doesn't apply if you're rich!
