How did Norway get to be such a good place?
I mean, there's gotta be a catch, right? There's no way a country can be THAT good without something seriously negative to counteract it.

Life isn't a point buy, some systems are just flat out superior to others.

You'd have to study 200 years of modern Norwegian history to understand it. Also, we have oil. The catch? Comparatively high taxes and high costs of living. But even after that, we are better off than even our Scandinavian neighbours.

But even after that, we are better off than even our Scandinavian neighbours. I suspect Swedes would disagree, although from what I hear they'd disagree with a Norwegian if he said the sky was blue.

But I love Norwegians too! Actually, I find post-Napoleonic Norwegian history to be incredibly awesome.

Nordic Rivalry! Let's throw Denmark into the mix! Though I did like that all the Nordic nations put their flag at half-staff for Norway.

This guy wrote 1500 pages worth of manifesto. The little of it I've read so far seems lucid and coherent. Yet no matter what he said, no matter how logical or otherwise compelling, any points he had to make that people may otherwise have been prepared to take notice of, will now be dismissed because of his crimes. I think if I generated 1500 pages worth of material, I'd like people to be able to approach it with a somewhat open mind. Actually, he wrote little of it himself. Most of it is copy-pasted from varying blogs.

Not that I don't think my country has a lot of positive elements -- for the most part, Canada is a pretty nice place to live, even if it's far from perfect -- but Norway is certainly an appealing choice if I ever decide to move abroad.

I'm told Norway is very progressive. I have had multiple people tell me to move there for my health and other things.

Though I did like that all the Nordic nations put their flag at half-staff for Norway. Everything I know about Scandinavian rivalry I learnt from Scandinavia and the World. Aside from that, everything interesting about Scandinavia for me ended about 25 September 1066, with one notable moment on 27 July 1361.
