and just because I found this....  Awesome photo... I'd totally still go for the triceratops, and be a damn site more impressed if the sauriodor had to fight it without it being stuck full of holes first. |

The Catalonians have a completely seperate language from the Spanish, just like the Portugese or the Basque. The Catalonians have repeatedly attempted, and sometimes succeeded in getting , independence from Spain. Generally because SDpain got pissy at some rebellious colony (the Netherlands, f'rinstance) and spent squillions of dollars failing to crush them.

Sadly, it has less to do with animal rights and more to do with trying to separate themselves from the rest of Spain. What amazes me is that these small countries still have even smaller regions insisting that they are culturally different when their entire country has less land area than Texas. Am I missing something here? Perhaps that Iberia has thousands of years of history as opposed to the couple centuries Texas has. Just look at all the languages spoken in the peninsula. This comes from the cultures of the peninsula being largely separate for many years before coming together (and not necessarily on good terms) to form the modern day countries there. |

You know, you are really abrasive. All these people ganging up on me because I asked a question. If I ever needed more proof of the Americanophobia of this site... I'm sure that if someone from outside the US asked the question I asked, they would be treated civilly and not have to put up with this crap.

im not really sure bullfighting is much more barbaric than other bloodsports. and i think the bull has more chance than most animals being hunted by yahoos with guns.
maybe my definition of civilised differs from the op's but to me a country that has gay marriage and does bullfighting looks more civilised than a country that hunts fuckloads and doesnt allow gay marriage.

brendanrizzo, european cultures developed before the steamtrain and cars and crap so they developed over shorter distances.
thats why europeans have very different cultures in what you see as a small area.
