I prefer to interpret that statement to mean the ship will morph into an ironclad. I pictured a ship de-evolving in a combination of the Pokemon and Civilization series That would be a pretty good weapon though. Imagine turning a modern carrier fleet into an ancient Roman trireme fleet in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Watching them try to not only Row back home through the storms and sheer distance, but also without the electronic navigation equipment they're undoubtedly dependent on would be hilarious.

It's an Iranian ship. I'm fairly sure 19th century would be a huge leap forward. You would be mistaken. Diesel turbine, Steel hull, QF guns, Basic radar, Manual flak... The Iranans are ready to wage war anytime in the mid 20th century.
