Indeed they are, but I really would not be surprised if, in a few days or weeks, there is a follow-up article to this one detailing the family's tragic murder. If it even makes it as far asd the Western media. I fear your cynicism is well placed, sadly.

Every single detail of this story is sick.
This young woman is very lucky she has a sane family to support her among her crazy community.

I think I know how the family can redeem their honor:
1. Find every person involved in their daughter's rape. 2. Have the daughter kill them painfully. 3. Display their mutilated bodies as a warning to others.

Think for two seconds how that would go down in a tribal society. Hey it makes more sense than killing the victim. Not if one considers the fallout. Taken to it's logical conclusion, "an eye for an eye" eventually renders everyone blind. We're talking about a country where inter village and tribal warefare are not unknown.

Yay to family. Boo to... well... most of fucken Pakistan, generally. Afghanistan too. Afghanistan used to be okay (before the Soviets turned up and the Mujahideen did their thing and then the civil war and the rise of the Taliban), just run-of-the-mill communist. Pakistan has always been fucked, though progressively worse so since 1980.

Is there an "I hate religion/it's not religion's fault" drinking game?
Also, I still have one good eye, I can see just fine.

It's not the religion. It's the culture. That's what's killing people in that area.
Ironbite-it's kinda amazing.
