Pakistani Family Refuses to Kill Daughter Who Was Raped, Drawing AngerThe title pretty much tells the whole story. The daughter was kidnapped and gang raped before being returned to her family. The police refuse to arrest her rapists. The village council declared her defiled. The family has been pressured to kill her to restore their honor, but they've refused. They've been facing attacks from others in the community because of it. In the meantime, she's been fighting in court to get her rapists punished. It's not looking good for her case, but she's not giving up. She's a brave woman, and I applaud her family (though it's a terrible judgement on that society that not murdering her for having been raped is noteworthy and laudable). I don't think anything's going to happen to her rapists, sadly (no evidence), but it's impressive that she's willing to press this, even as others call for her life.

Yeah not shocked. This is a very.....bad society. The fact that they blame her for this is...amazing.
Ironbite-totally not shocked at this.

I don't even know how another human beings mind can operate this way, "their daughter was raped, quickly-ignore the rapist and kill the daughter!"

What the--no evidence? So in addition to EVERYTHING ELSE, they insist she be murdered for something they insist DIDN'T HAPPEN?

As someone in the comments section pointed out, there's still evidence that sexual activity took place. The problem is proving it was the result of actual rape, and not adultery, which is what these cases are believed to be.

Woman are just worthless as anything other than sex slaves in their "society" and so non-virgins are deemed unfit for life.

Sooooooooo...who's up for a little tactical search, rescue...then destroy?
"In other news, Pakistan mysteriously disappeared after a massive conflagration, thought to be the work of Islamic extremists, broke out, engulfing the country in flames and killing all but a handful of (decent) people. Now, sports!"

Sadly, this family will always be the doomed moral victors. It would not surprise me if that family gets murdered in their sleep for this. Separating from India (over religious differences no less, which shows how backward this country is) was the worst thing the Pakistanis could conceivably have done. Everything I said about them in that "expelled schoolgirl" post applies here, double.
As for misogynists like Vox Day and fschmidt, would they like one-way tickets to Pakistan? I'm sure they'd love the way women are treated there! [/no sarcasm at all]

I'm glad they're doing the right thing. Of course, the fact that you have to applaud people for doing the right thing in the first place is messed up.

Now in my world, an honor killing would consist of seeing how long the pieces of shit that raped my child could stay afloat in a septic tank.

I'm actually MORE shocked that this family refuses to 'honour kill' their own daughter than I am by the circumstances leading up to it. How bad is it, that I have come to expect senseless killing from people and am surprised if it doesn't happen?

Indeed they are, but I really would not be surprised if, in a few days or weeks, there is a follow-up article to this one detailing the family's tragic murder.
