Fixed it for you. (Protip: If it doesn't end with .jpg, .gif or .png it probably isn't going to show up right.) Thanks bro, was wondering what was up with that.

How long do you think it'll be before the fundies see this analogy and try to claim it's not at all a legitimate one...?

to be fair, it doesn't cover all the cases. such as the times women just try to get someone in trouble(and yes, I've seen that happen twice, and happen once to me).
but other then that, yeah, it's pretty accurate in intent, if not in the exact wording.

Not saying all fundies are misogynists and vice versa, but....

I always hate that people point that out. I mean, there are people who will lie about getting robbed (as the analogy was for) or lie about assault, drugs, or just about any other crime to get someone in trouble. It only seems to come up in cases of rape, and it only seems to serve the purpose of denigrating rape claims in general.

I would be very interested to know how many accusations of rape are fraudulent compared to accusations of robbery... How one could hope to gather a reliable statistic on that I can't imagine.

Especially since nobody is going to readily admit they lied in most cases.
Also, your kitteh is hypnotic.

I've only heard of one case where someone lied about getting robbed to get someone else in trouble, and I think it was from here actually. I'm not counting cases where someone lost something and thought it was stolen, I'm only talking about cases where nothing was actually taken.
also, I've heard of a few(3 or 4) cases where people lied about getting assaulted.
and I'm sorry for bringing it up, I just thought it's a good point to make. *shrug*

Because people are fucked up, is why.

While I agree that preventing innocent people from being punished is important, that's not the target for which this analogy was meant. If it DID try to include that, it would completely miss the mark, leading the crazy people to go "SEE? SEE HOW EVIL WOMEN???" and everyone with a speck of sanity scratching their heads, trying to figure out what, exactly, is the point of the story.

It also really doesn't matter how often you've personally heard of these things happening. But this, more to the point, is about the attitude with which rape victims face, and makes a comparison to how absurd it'd be to show that disregard to others. It's not inaccurate, because there is a default callousness rape victims face, and a default understanding. A woman who likes sex can't be raped. A woman who wears flashy clothes can't be raped. A woman who goes out with someone can't be raped. They were all asking for it. Or, basically this: While I agree that preventing innocent people from being punished is important, that's not the target for which this analogy was meant. If it DID try to include that, it would completely miss the mark, leading the crazy people to go "SEE? SEE HOW EVIL WOMEN???" and everyone with a speck of sanity scratching their heads, trying to figure out what, exactly, is the point of the story. Except she has a vagina and is therefore evil and cannot be trusted. And I am therefore jealous, but that's a completely different story.

We've had threads about rape before and from what I can remember, somewhere between 8-10% of rape allegations turn out to be false. Which is a very tiny percentage. And that's just among the women who come forward--if you factor in women who were raped but don't seek legal action I'm sure the percentage would plummet.
