Guy's personal life has precisely zero to do with his effectiveness as a politician.

Hitler was a clean living, speaking, vegetarian who was kind to animals and respectful to women. Churchill was a drunk, and Roosevelt a philandering bum. Don't get me started on what Stalin was into. But I think we all know how the rest of THAT story goes.

Also, to all the people advocating people for lying over their personal life that has nothing to do with their actual employment... seriously... let he that is without sin cast the first stone.

Weiner's puerile sexting was simply not abusive, partly because he had no actual power over its recipients. His audiences were not captive: The women to whom he directed his texts had unmitigated freedom to delete and ignore him. In fact, his recklessness gave the women all the power in their virtual relationships, which they've exercised most effectively by publicizing them. If Weiner is a harasser than so are millions of others who don't ask and receive explicit permission to send sexually explicit texts to people they've never met and over whom they have no power.

Yes, nothing says rape or harrassment like sexting pics to someone you're flirting with, also he didn't send any of the pics to that 17 year old, he just had a regular bland conversation to her

I've been asked many times over the last few days what I think about l'affair Weiner. Should he have resigned? Should he have stood his ground? You want my answer? I couldn't care less, really. Stay in office, don't stay in office, it doesn't really affect me in the slightest. But I do think the whole thing is a perfect example of just how ridiculous our entire political culture is in this country.

Weiner showed his penis to someone on the internet? Round up the firing squad! Let's spend two straight weeks talking about nothing but this! The very life of the republic depends on the outcome! We'd better obsess over this 24/7 -- at least until Paris Hilton does something scandalous, so we can talk about that instead.

What's that, you say? Presidents Bush and Obama have succeeded in extending the imperial power of the executive branch beyond all sane constitutional boundaries and continue to use the Bill of Rights as toilet paper? Ho hum, you silly civil libertarian. How can you worry about such things when the final vote on American Idol is coming up soon?

What, you think we should be talking about the Patriot Act extension and Obama's total flip flop on that issue instead? You think we should actually be having a discussion about the limits of the government's surveillance power instead of arguing over who really deserved to win Dancing With the Stars? You're such a stick in the mud.

Sure, the Obama administration is now using unmanned drones to drop bombs in at least four separate nations, only two of which have congressional approval. And sure, Obama has again contradicted himself and flip flopped on the War Powers Act and now that he's president he thinks the president can do pretty much anything he wants without Congress.

But haven't you heard? Joey Lawrence has a new TV show coming out! And Lindsay Lohan could do something stupid at any moment. You have to keep your priorities straight.
