www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-14951026This would be the first confirmed attempt by Palestine to seek UN statehood, and in effect be recognized by all other nations as a nation in its own right. With this affirmation the USA would be forced to recognize Palestine as a state. Palestine would define its borders by the 1967 definition, or the area Obama also advocated before the right wing (and Bibi) decided to push it even further. Naturally the only solid obstacle is a US veto. There is some bureaucratic bullshit going on here; the Obama administration has expressed support for statehood, but in THEIR terms. Instant statehood through the UN is essentially forcing their hand, and they'll probably use their veto. But I'd like to hear what the situation from the US is. If this is news at all in fact. The Obama administration knows if it stays silent the right wing will crucify him (again) for allowing Palestine to exist at all, but most of the world sees no problem with a Palestine State.

Yup. I may be missing some implications, but my first reaction is - let them.

Yup. I may be missing some implications, but my first reaction is - let them. You want the UN to be a state? (Bad joke aside) They had their chance to do this when Ehud Barak offered them a peace deal with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capitol. Then the second intifada started. And now they think its raining gummy bears in hell.

Yup. I may be missing some implications, but my first reaction is - let them. The implcations are, this will totally ruin a perfectly good genocide campaign.

The one that stands a chance of happening. I have little fear of the "Palestinian" attempt, since it has a lower effectiveness rating than KAOS.

They can be a state when they acknowledge Israel as a state.
Ironbite-seems fair right?

They can be a state when they acknowledge Israel as a state. Ironbite-seems fair right? Every organisation affiliated with the PLO (HAMAS isn't in the PLO) already did that during the Oslo process.

Not to mention that it seems a bit disproportionate.

Can we arm Palestine under the table so them and Israel can really have at it? Can that be our third option?

They can be a state when they acknowledge Israel as a state. Ironbite-seems fair right? Indeed. The government of Israel may now stop undermining the existence of Palestinians as a people, as Fatah finally recognised Israel's existence as a country. Twenty years ago. You want the UN to be a state? (Bad joke aside) They had their chance to do this when Ehud Barak offered them a peace deal with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capitol. Then the second intifada started. And now they think its raining gummy bears in hell. This would have been the Taba Summit, in 2001, right? That was ended, despite being perhaps days away from ending the war, because off the upcoming Israeli election. After the end of negotiations, both side ramped up the fighting. For once, Palestinians were able to actually inflict casualties on the Israelis; only five times as many Palestinian civilians were killed as Israeli.
