They can be a state when they acknowledge Israel as a state. Ironbite-seems fair right? The US only recognised the independence of Canada in 1917, when US and Canadian troops fought alongside.

The Palestinians have more than earned the right to be free. Their freedom was guaranteed under the Hussein/MacMahon accord of 1915, in which Britain agreed to arm Palestinian freedom fighters against their Turkish overlords... and to recognize Palestine as soon as WW1 ended. The British only kept the first part of that promise. They (the British) entered into secret negotiations with France over the partition and colonization of Palestine almost immediately. The secret Sykes Pichot agreement of 1916, divided Palestine into a French territory called "Syria" and a British territory called "The Transjordan". Palestine fought for the allied side in both world wars, and was betrayed by the British after both wars. The long betrayal needs to end. Palestine needs to be freed retroactively, and writen into history. Let them be the country that sent troops to defend Etheopia against Italy in accordance with League of Nations policys against imperialism.

Even if the British hadn't done that, these people have a right to live in their homes governed by laws instituted by a government they take part in. They have an absolute right to that- to either vote in a parliament of all inhabitants of Greater Israel, or to vote in their own independent parliament.
And the well-armed, nuclear-powered Israelis have no right to deny them that based on 'security concerns'.

The biggest fact that always gets left out of the equation is that the ordinary people who live in that area, who happened to be born and raised in that land and know no other homeland, have just as much right as the next guy to live there. And knowing that both states should exist, and learn to live with each other. The American and Israeli right wingers who see the Palestines as mere terrorists either don't see that point or refuse to. Or and Ibby, Hamas is not Fatah is not the myriad of independent offshoots is not the rest of Palestine. They don't all think alike.

They can be a state when they acknowledge Israel as a state. Ironbite-seems fair right? Why? IS Israel not already recognized as a state by the rest of the world? Does some outside state control their borders, their economy, even basic government activities like collecting taxes? Has Israel slowly been losing land to an outside state, citizens of that outside nation simply moving in, vandalizing and terrorizing those already living there so they move out and the settlers can say they have rights to the land? I mean I agree with you. We should be fair. So lets be fair.

Stupid question: Why does the US seem so adamant to support Israel so much?
Why are they afraid of Palestine having statehood?

We need a Jewish superpower for political and strategic purposes and a Jewish land for religious purposes. I really wanted to say its not as simple as that, but yeah, that pretty much covers it. Especially the part where Israel is supposed to be the location where millions of Jews will die when the End Times come.

A less religiously cynical viewpoint might say that we really like having a democratic(ish), fairly western friendly nation in the Middle East.
