William Wallace: Leader of the Scottish revolution against England. Mel Gibson made a movie about him called "Braveheart".
Shaka Zulu: Leader of the Zulu African tribe in the early 19th century; pioneered tactics and weapons that allowed the Zulus to hold off the British for a good, long time.

Is it wrong that I have no idea who William Wallace or Shaka Zulu are? You must never have seen Braveheart, then. William Wallace was a Scottish knight who led the Scots in the Wars for Scottish Independence in the late 1200s and early 1300s. A poem was written about his deeds after his death, and it was this poem that provided the inspiration for the movie Braveheart. Shaka Zulu was a ruler who unified several tribes in southern Africa in the early 1800s to form the Zulu nation. Wikipedia is your friend. Don't be afraid to use it.

Peanut and Rat: I try to avoid Mel Gibson movies. I might have seen a sentence or two in the history textbook I was using last semester in history when we were talking about Imperialism in Africa.

Maori Warrior vs. Shaolin Monk.
Just tested the monks steel hooks and I think I peed a little when the guy hooked them together and almost cut the gel torso in half.

Thanks for the post, Harley. It reminded me that it's on tonight. And since I'm on the west coast, I haven't missed it.

I must say I found the dance the Maori do before entering battle to be hilarious. I don't think it'd be too funny after he broke my face in six places with one swing of his rock club.

Indeed. Also, that shark-tooth club....yerrrgh! *winces*
I fully expected the Shaolin monk's twin hooks to be the difference maker they were, though.

Peanut: I read that as "Barret Wallace." Dear God, what the Hell is wrong with me?
My satellite is totally gone, so I can't watch it. Someone said I could catch them on Spike's website, correct?

What the hell? I went to the Deadliest Warrior wiki and instead of IRA vs. Taliban it says IRA vs. GOKU. What the hell is that jive?

Peanut: I read that as "Barret Wallace." Dear God, what the Hell is wrong with me? *guffaws* I wonder what they'll use as a suitable test target for his massive gun-arm? Yes, that was I. The link is warrior.spike.com and the most current last week's episode is available for viewing right now, as are a couple of the earlier ones.

Well, based on the clips I've seen I don't see much hope for the William Wallace v. Shaka Zulu episode. They seem to have just gone hook, line, and sinker for the "Braveheart" version of Wallace. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE "Braveheart;" EVERY Scotsman loves "Braveheart." It's like our "Citizen Kane" or something.
But William Wallace did NOT wear kilts. He wore chain and tunic. He did NOT wear woad. He was not in his 30s. He did not look anything remotely like Mel Gibson. Wallace had a full beard, like pretty much every other male human being in Europe over the age of 14. He did not run around in wrap kilts waving a 6 foot claymore at people. The version I have seen in the promos just does not line up with the actual, historical Wallace, so how can their "results" be accurate?

Was anyone else as surprised by last night's results as I was?
Allow me to explain. My money was originally on the Shaolin for the whole "calm, discipline and steel trumps brute force" reason, but after three of the four weapons they tested gave the Maori the advantage, I was beginning to have my doubts. Then, in the end, the Shaolin pulls out an epic win anyway.
I hope when they put the series out on DVD, they include the weapons tests they didn't have on the broadcast episodes as extra features, at least.

There were weapons they showed by didn't test. Like with the Shaloin Monk team they were shown throwing chakrams and targets but they were never tested.
