I used to think bi people just "needed to pick a side and stick with it." I was young and didn't know much. I'm now more convinced that gay/straight is not just a 2 sided coin that gets flipped at birth or at puberty or whatever. It's more like a sliding scale from indigo blue at one end to fire engine red at the other - but with many many shades of purple, violet, mauve etc. in between. I am straight. Been married for longer than most on this board have been alive. But - I find women attractive. I can find a fantasy about women exciting. If I had been born 25 years later, I might have identified as bi at some point in my life. But I'm happily married. I'm monogamous. That doesn't mean I don't have maybe a 10% tendancy to gayness. It doesn't mean it was a phase I grew out of. I think more people are in the shades of purple than at the extreme ends of the scale. Not all gay men are repulsed by women. They just prefer men. Not all straight men are repulsed by other men - but often that fact scares the bejeebers out of them! I think the biggest homophobes are the blue tinged with a hint of pink. terrified that their pink tones might come out and be recognized by others.

Is there any delicious irony to be found in the fact that he robbed an RBC bank = Royal Bank of Canada?

When I was younger i went to a christian camp. They did of fun things. There ws a sermon everyday, but was more singing than anything. I just went along with it. I'm from Ontario, not too many major fundies around. ...what camp? I spent numerous summers at a fundie Christian camp in Muskoka. I know this wasn't aimed at me, but I went to a couple of Xtian camps in the Greater Toronto area: Jewels for Jesus (seriously!) in Unionville somewhere and Willow Springs in Stoufville. J4J was the worst. girls weren't allowed to wear shorts or pants. at camp. most of the activities had some sort of religious undertones. Willow Springs seems to still exist. They were crap, but they were cheap. And so were my parents. I wanted to go to horse camp. sigh.

Peace out folks! Real women have curves - and no curves. Desirable women come in all sizes and shapes to appeal to every pallette. Lucky for me, my husband likes curves and thinks extremely thin women should eat a sandwich - IFF they want to appeal to him. Otherwise, he really doesn't give a shit. But - he doesn't make vomitty noises about women he doesn't find appealing. That woud be rude.

Paraphrased quote from the end of the WW2 trailer "What we see and hear isn't always what you read in books, but that's ok. We know the truth and that's what matters." Holy shit.

Seriously, somebody thought 50 years ago that a super cunning plan was to groom a black man born in Kenya to run & win the presidency in 2008?
Seriously? that was the plan? Their best shot?

Hey, don't complain about being in a Liberal riding. You could be stuck in Stephen Harper's riding... like I am. I feel your pain. Jim Flaherty is my MP. Hand his wife is our MPP.

Resident of Ontario here. You cannot get better/different/unapproved health care treatment by offering to pay cash. If you want to line jump you need to head south. You can try "alternative" medical treatment like naturopathy, chiropractic etc and pay cash for them. But a proper treatment in a hospital? unless it's cosmetic surgery, it's covered by OHIP and that's that. And praise Jebus for it. We wouldn't have it any other way.
ps - if people think we are "just like America" - then why do Yanks always talk about the States as "the best country in the whole big wide world"? Personally, I would beg to differ. In fact I'm pleased that we do differ.

I can't believe that the average Tennessee resident can even name a single element of sharia law. Every time I see something like this my mind sings "In the la-and of the freeeEEEEE!!" amazing. I'm so glad to live north of the border. These days even more than normal.

Canadian here. Wait times are (I believe) a bit longer in a full medicare country because everyone is in line. NOt just the rich and/or insured. Everyone. Emergencies are still emergencies. I had my cancer surgery scheduled for less than 4 days after my diagnosis. In fact, I asked them to postpone for a week so I could sort out my life a bit first. My chemo started 6 or 8 weeks later which is the recommended time for recovery from surgery. If you need a knee replacement - you probably have a longer wait as it is not life threatening. If you have a stroke - you get treatment right away. I'm sick of hearing about Canadians who go to the States for treatment. It's the exception to the rule and is usually just sensationalistic reporting. I had to have an MRI and my boss actually offered to pay for me to go to the States to have it done when he heard I wouldn't have it for 4 weeks. But my doctor assured me that in my case the 4 week wait was intentional because of the bleed I had had. So I trusted my doctor.
As you can tell from this post - if I lived below the border I would be bankrupt and possibly dead because I would not be able to get insurance with so many pre-existing conditions. Planning your future around dying due to lack of insurance (like a previous poster) sounds rather sad and unneccessary to me.
