Okay, so
Now not only do I hate him for being an extremely homophobic asshole, but now I hate him for being a racist AND a cult leader.
My hate for him just doubled. If my hate could take physical form, I believe that you'd be hard-pressed to find his ASHES. But alas, it cannot.

Not to be a dick, but it turns out the guy wasn't a Christian. So assuming that the guy was a Christian and immediately decrying the religion is a little bit...I don't know. Wrong?
In any case, this dude needs a full ass psychiatric evaluation. From the sounds of things, there is a small chance his is legitimately mentally ill and I would hate to have someone who was legally insane sent to normal prison. That said, if he's mentally fit, lock his ass up. Forever.

I was pointing out that: 1) Turns out the guy wasn't Christian. 2) This board took the general position of "Fuck Christians for killing gays". 3) That makes us look like douchecups on the level of at least 0.2 Jack Thompsons. Remember after Virginia Tech when he was all " see?! GAMERS ARE MURDER MACHINES!" and then it turned out the guy wasn't really a gamer? Same idea at play here. |

For one thing, past events where gays have been beaten or killed have a high occurrence rate of being Christians who do it for religious reasons. (There's also an occurrence rate of Christians doing it for non-religious reasons, but that can be attributed to the high percentage of Christians in America, period) It's a pattern. Many Christians who kill gays feel they are doing it for God's will. Whereas the "killer gamers" didn't do it BECAUSE they were gamers. They were just fucked up... and happened to be gamers at the same time. Two separate issues. To be honest, my first thought was Mormon, but Mormons consider themselves Christians anyways, and now that I'm outside Christianity, they seem like just another denomination to me. So, this guy fit the pattern because he was doing it "for God's will." The fact that he's a Black Supremacist "Hebrew" only came out recently, and only slightly complicates matters - 90% of the stuff said still applies because Judaism and Christianity have a book in common. The Torah/Old Testament. |

I felt that the thread was more criticizing the use of religion to justify violence in general, with Christianity being the most familiar religion that justifies it (for us North Americans at least).
And indeed, the action of the cult leader was Biblical in origin.
